History of our lamps
In the vibrant and transformative era of the 1960s, a group of young, visionary Italian designers came together to create something extraordinary. This collective, known as Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova, was driven by a passion for innovation and modernism. Among them was Giancarlo Mattioli, whose creativity would soon give birth to an iconic piece of design history: the Nessino lamp.
It all began in 1965 when Mattioli and his colleagues designed the Nesso lamp. Inspired by the organic shapes of nature, particularly the form of a mushroom, the Nesso lamp embodied the futuristic aesthetics of the Space Age. Its smooth, flowing lines and bold presence were a testament to the era’s fascination with all things modern and innovative.
Two years later, in 1967, the designers decided to create a smaller, more accessible version of their celebrated Nesso lamp. They named it Nessino. Made from injection-molded ABS thermoplastic, a cutting-edge material at the time, the Nessino lamp featured a sleek, dome-shaped shade and a flared base. This material allowed for the intricate curves and shapes that defined its look, making it both durable and visually striking.
The story of the Nessino lamp is a tale of creativity, innovation, and timeless design. From its inception in the minds of visionary designers to its enduring legacy in homes and museums around the world, the Nessino lamp continues to shine brightly, a testament to the enduring power of great design.
